The chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, Mahmood Yakubu, has appeared before the joint committee of the Senate and the House of Representatives on INEC to defend the commission’s proposed budget for the 2019 general elections.
He was also accompanied by the minister of national planning, Udoma Udo Udoma on Friday, August 17, for the meeting seen as crucial to the forthcoming general election, The Punch reports.
Shortly after the meeting commenced, chairman of the joint committee, Senator Suleiman Nazif, reiterated the committee’s resolve to ensure that INEC got all that is needed to ensure a hitch-free 2019 general elections.
"We are not playing politics with the budget for the 2019 elections. We just want some clarifications," he said.
